Maharashtra Elections 2024: ‘Problem is in Mahayuti,’ Congress dismisses rift within MVA, claims to announce all seats today

Amid ongoing seat-sharing discussions, Congress state in-charge Ramesh Chennithala has dismissed speculation about any rift within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. Chennithala said that all is well within the opposition coalition, which plans to announce its candidate list by Saturday evening.

After attending the Congress’ Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting in Delhi on Friday, Chennithala noted that party leader Balasaheb Thorat will meet with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar today to resolve outstanding issues.

“All is well in MVA. We are going to fight the election together. There is no problem in MVA. The problem is in Mahayuti.We are all together. We are working out a formula. By tomorrow evening (Saturday), all the seats will be declared,” Chennithala told ANI late last night.

When asked about reported differences regarding the number of seats, he commented, “In Mahayuti, the problem is much more. In MVA, the problem is less. I have asked Balasaheb Thorat to meet Uddhav ji and Sharad Pawar ji to thrash out all the issues,” ANI reported.

The MVA alliance has announced its seat-sharing arrangement for 255 constituencies, with each party—Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction)—receiving 85 seats. The remaining 23 seats will be allocated based on the respective party candidate lists.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole confirmed on Thursday that the MVA has reached an agreement on seat sharing for the upcoming Assembly elections. Both Chennithala and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut affirmed that each alliance partner will contest 85 seats.
