Indian markets are likely to open on a cautious note on Thursday, January 23. As per the early trends, GIFT Nifty was trading 29 points or 0.13 per cent lower at 23,152. This indicates a potentially subdued opening for key domestic indices, including the NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex.
Sensex and Nifty end in green on January 22
The stock market ended Wednesday’s session on a positive note, with all major indices closing higher. The NSE Nifty 50 rose 135.85 points or 0.59% to settle at 23,160.50, while the BSE Sensex gained 614.57 points or 0.81%, closing at 76,452.93. The Bank Nifty index also recorded an increase of 153.50 points or 0.32%, ending the day at 48,724.40.
Quarterly watch: Key earnings announcements on January 23
Around 60 companies are set to announce their Q3 FY25 earnings today, keeping their share prices in focus during the trading session. Leading the list is Adani Green Energy, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, United Spirits, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Mankind Pharma, V2 Retail, UltraTech Cement, Nippon Life India Asset Management, Syngene International, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, Thyrocare Technologies, MphasiS, KFin Technologies, Cyient, LKP Securities, among others.
Stocks to watch on January 23, 2025 HDFC Bank
The bank reported a net profit of Rs 16,735.50 crore for Q3 FY24, a modest 2.22% increase from Rs 16,372.54 crore last year. Net Interest Income (NII) stood at Rs 30,653 crore.
The share price of HDFC Bank post the Q3 FY25 announcement ended Wednesday’s trading session on a positive note. HDFC Bank’s stock price surged by 1.80%, settling at Rs 1,671.90 apiece.
Hindustan Unilever (HUL)
HUL posted a 19.18% jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,989 crore, thanks to the sale of its ‘Pureit’ business. The company also announced acquiring a 90.5% stake in Minimalist for Rs 2,670 crore, valuing the premium beauty brand at Rs 2,955 crore.
In the previous trading session, the share price of HUL closed flat, down by 0.50 points.

Polycab India
The company saw an 11.49% rise in net profit at Rs 464.35 crore. Revenue surged 20.40% to Rs 5,226.06 crore compared to Rs 4,340.47 crore in Q3 FY24.
