Honda to launch its e-scooter this month— Activa electric on cards?

Honda Motorcycle and Scooters will be launching a new two-wheeler on 27 November. The Japanese automaker has sent us a media invite for a possible unveiling or launch of a new two-wheeler. This is expected to be Honda’s first electric two-wheeler to go on sale in India, most probably a battery-powered scooter.

In all likelihood, the upcoming electric scooter is most likely to be called Activa Electric or eActiva. The Activa is a household name in the Indian two-wheeler market and Honda would like to capitalise on the Activa moniker. We were expecting Honda to unveil the battery-powered Activa at the ongoing EICMA 2024 but that wasn’t the case.

Honda CUV e: concept details

That said, Honda did unveil CUV e: concept electric scooter which is possible to make it to India as the Activa Electric. The CUV e: is confirmed for mass production in Europe. There is no word on its launch in India even though some reports say that Honda will launch the same electric scooter in India as the Activa Electric.

Visually, the CUV e: is very similar to the concept vehicle but it is no way similar to the petrol-powered Activa. It carries a very sleek and minimalistic design with wide headlight on the front apron, flush-fitting pillion footrests and taillight bar. The upcoming electric scooter will come equipped with twin removable battery packs which leaves negligible room for storage.

In the media release shared, Honda says the CUV e: will be the twin battery packs of 70 km on a single charge. Honda claims the performance of this e-scooter will be comparable to a 125cc ICE scooter. In terms of features, the CUV has a 7-inch TFT display, connected features, keyless go, full LED lighting, USB-C socket, three riding modes and reverse assist. Honda will also offer the Honda RoadSync Duo app for connectivity functions.

Will Honda CUV e: be the new Activa Electric?

Given the specifications and features on offer, we doubt if the CUV e: concept will turn into the production-spec Activa Electric. The battery-powered Activa will be simpler in design and most likely to be based on the existing petrol Activa in order to keep the cost in check.
