IKEA opens its doors in Delhi after online presence

IKEA has opened its first store in the national capital, a 15,000 sq ft space in west Delhi’s Pacific Mall, as the Swedish home-furnishings giant accelerates its push into high-footfall urban locations.

The move follows the company’s online launch in the Delhi-NCR region in March and is part of a wider omnichannel strategy combining e-commerce, large-format outlets, smaller city stores, and dedicated planning points. The new store features over 2,000 products on display, with 800 available for immediate purchase, and includes digital design tools, interior planning services, and a Swedish Cafe offering IKEA’s signature snacks.

Patrik Antoni, IKEA India’s chief executive, described the opening as “a big milestone” for the company in one of its most dynamic markets. “We hope to inspire Delhiites to see their homes in a new way,” he said, adding that the store was designed to make IKEA “more accessible, relevant, and inspiring for many more people in India”.

Urban format and future plans

The Delhi store represents the latest step in IKEA’s “One Click, 30 Minutes Away” model. Large-format locations in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Navi Mumbai provide the full showroom experience, while compact city stores, such as the new Delhi branch and an existing outlet in south Mumbai, deliver curated product ranges and space-planning services. A “Plan and Order Point” format in Bengaluru focuses on customised kitchens and wardrobes, and the company’s online platform offers the full catalogue for home delivery.

Pooja Grover, country expansion manager, said Delhi’s Pacific Mall location reflected IKEA’s efforts to adapt to retail trends by situating outlets in community-focused spaces that combine shopping with leisure.

“We are constantly learning from evolving retail trends in India to introduce formats that are new and relevant for our customers,” said Grover.

Underscoring its long-term commitment to India, Ikea has two full-scale stores under development in Gurugram and Noida. The country is a priority growth market for Ingka Group, IKEA’s parent, which is investing in sustainable delivery networks and expanding its reach to cities including Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Lucknow. It has one distribution centre in Pune and one customer distribution centre in Gurugram.
