Despite a slight moderation in hiring in FY25, the renewable energy sector continues to generate a high number of jobs, according to a new TeamLease Services report. In FY25 the hiring in RE space is expected to grow at a robust pace of 18.9%. Though this is slightly lower than 23.7% in FY24, is much higher than 8.5% in FY23 and 10.4% in FY22.
Fuelled by the ambitious renewable energy targets of 500 GW (gigawatts) of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, the sector is expected to create significant direct and indirect jobs opportunities in the future. “The government initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, National Green Hydrogen Mission, PM KUSUM, and the Solar PV Module PLI Scheme have been instrumental in driving the growth of the renewable energy sector. These policies have significantly contributed to the workforce expansion and skill development,” the report said.

The study highlights the rising demand for technology-driven roles in solar, wind, and hybrid energy systems as companies increasingly adopt digital innovations to boost efficiency. “Notably, the need for solar PV technicians, roofers, production operators, storage operators, and waste management specialists is expanding, alongside the growing demand for solar panel installers, energy auditors, and operational support professionals,” the study said.
Meanwhile, states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, which are leading solar energy production in India and houses the majority of the country’s solar power plants, are at the forefront of employment generation in the sector, attracting talent and investment in renewable energy projects.
The study suggest that most contractual employees in the sector (44.1%) held an ITI or diploma followed by 28.9% graduates, 14.6% 12th pass, and 4.1% postgraduates. Also, the industry is largely youth-driven with 54.8% employees in the 26-35 age bracket. The sector also maintains a significant presence of experienced professionals, with 16% in the 35-40 years group and 18.2% in the 40-plus category.
