Stock Market Live Updates: Flat session; Nifty above 22,500 but mid and small cap selling continues

Sensex Nifty Today | Stock Market Live Updates: Indian equity markets opened March 10’s trading on a muted note, but later jumped higher. The Nifty 50 trades near its day’s high level while the Sensex jumps more than 250 points. Power Grid Corp, HUL, Adani Ports, JSW Steel, and Bajaj Finserv are the top gainers in the Nifty 50. The Nifty Bank and midcap stocks are underperforming the benchmark indices. The BSE Small Cap Index is down over 1%.

One of the key underperformers in trade today is EV maker Ola. The Ola share price plunged 4% on reports that the company’s showrooms across India were raided. This is with regards to government regulation violations. The company’s showrooms reportedly do not have trade certificates.

Here are some top factors to watch today- 

  • China’s retaliatory tariffs: China has imposed retaliatory tariffs on US imports. It has applied a 10%-15% tariff on certain U.S. agricultural goods, which will come into effect starting Monday, March 10. Also, Beijing said a 100% tariff would be imposed on Canadian rapeseed oil, oil cakes, and peas.
  • FIIs continue to sell-off: The foreign institutional investors are on a selling spree in the Indian equity markets. They have sold Rs 15,501.57 crore in March, 2025. This is the sixth consecutive month of selling. They sold the highest in October, just a month after Nifty 50 and Sensex touched their all-time highs. 
  • Key data to watch this week: India will report Consumer Price Index (CPI) or Inflation data for February 2025 later this week. Headline inflation for January came down to 4.31%, which was the lowest year-on-year inflation after August 2024.

Hindustan Unilever, Power Grid Corporation, Nestle India, Infosys, and JSW Steel were the top gainers in the Nifty 50 during the later hours on March 10. IndusInd Bank, ONGC, Trent, Titan, and Bajaj Auto were themajor losers.
