‘Guys, Eternal is the parent…’: Zomato clears the air on name change and rebranding

Zomato’s decision to rename its parent company to Eternal Ltd. sent social media into a frenzy, with netizens speculating about the future of their favourite food delivery platform. The announcement, made by CEO Deepinder Goyal, hinted at a broader business expansion, but many users misunderstood it as a complete rebranding of the Zomato app itself.

Putting all confusion to rest, Zomato clarified that the app will remain Zomato.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the company stated: “Guys, Eternal is the parent company—the app will remain Zomato.”

Social media users reacted to the rebranding with witty and sarcastic comments. One X user joked:

“Zomato became Eternal and customers became Avengers 🤣🤣🤣”

Another user quipped: “Refund will be pending eternally’ bolna tha.” (They should have said refunds will be pending eternally.)

A third user hilariously compared the rebranding to personal relationships:

“Now my food delivery and my situationship have the same status—eternally arriving but never committed. #Situationship #Zomato #Eternal”

Why the Name Change?

On Thursday, Zomato announced that it would be renaming itself to Eternal Ltd., a move that signals a shift beyond food delivery. CEO Deepinder Goyal, in a letter to shareholders, emphasized that the new name reflects the company’s broader vision as it expands into multiple business areas.

Goyal noted that Eternal was already in internal use following Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit, its quick-commerce platform. The decision to make it the official corporate identity underscores the growing significance of businesses beyond food delivery.

Despite the corporate name change, the Zomato app and brand will continue as usual, reassuring users that their food delivery experience remains unchanged. The rebranding to Eternal Ltd. represents Zomato’s long-term strategy to diversify and evolve beyond its core business.
