How are markets poised to open? Here are top 6 cues to watch ahead of opening

GIFT Nifty indicated that Indian equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 are poised to see a lower start on Monday despite Asian markets opening on a higher note in early trade hours. 

Previously, on Friday, the NSE Nifty 50 closed the session 113.15 points or 0.49% lower at 23,092.20, while the BSE Sensex closed 329.92 points or 0.43% lower at 76,190.46.

Key global and domestic cues to know on January 27, 2024 Asian markets

Asia markets were trading on a higher note on Monday Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading 0.55% higher at open. Topix advanced 0.92%. However, the Asia Dow was trading 0.05% lower at 3,760.06. The Chinese benchmark index Shanghai Composite was trading flat at 3,252.63. 

Wall Street

US indices closed Friday on a lower note on the back of profit-taking. The S&P 500 closed the session 0.3% lower at 6,101.24. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite dipped 0.5% to close the session at 19,954.30. The 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 140.82 points or 0.3% to close at 44,424.25.

US dollar 

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was up 0.08% at 107.56 on Monday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. Also, the Indian rupee closed at 86.21 against the US Dollar on Friday.

Crude oil

WTI crude prices were trading at $73.83 down by 1.11%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $77.64 down by 1.08%, on Monday morning. 

FII, DII data

Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net sellers of shares net worth Rs 2,758.49 crore. Meanwhile, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 2,402.31 crore on January 24, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
