EPFO members attention! You can transfer your PF account without employer approval – Here’s how!

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will now allow members to transfer their PF accounts without routing online transfer claims through their past or present employers in specific cases.

To ensure ease of doing for its members, the process has been simplified for transfer of PF account on change of jobs wherein the requirement to route online transfer claims through either the previous or current employer has been removed in majority of cases. “With the introduction of the revised process, it is expected that in future over 1.20 crore out of 1.30 crore total transfer claims i.e. 94% of the total claims would be directly forwarded to EPFO without requiring the employer’s intervention,” the Labour and Employment Ministry said in a statement on January 19.

After implementation to this revised procedure, transfer claims will be processed directly by EPFO, speeding up the service for members, the government said. “These reforms will not only streamline processes but also help build greater trust and confidence in EPFO services,” it added.

However, this simplification process will not be applicable in certain cases. Below are the scenarios where simplification applies:

Same UAN with Aadhaar Linkage (Post-2017):

If transfers are between member IDs linked to the same UAN (issued on or after October 1, 2017) and Aadhaar, employer approval is no longer required.

Different UANs with Aadhaar Linkage (Post-2017):

Transfers between member IDs associated with different UANs (issued on or after October 1, 2017) and linked to the same Aadhaar can now be processed directly.

Same UAN with Aadhaar Linkage (Pre-2017):

Transfers between member IDs linked to the same UAN issued before October 1, 2017, are eligible, provided the UAN is linked to Aadhaar, and the member’s name, date of birth, and gender are consistent across Member IDs.

Different UANs with Aadhaar Linkage (Pre-2017):

Transfers between member IDs associated with different UANs (where at least one was issued before October 1, 2017) and linked to the same Aadhaar can also be processed, as long as member details match across IDs.

How will this simplification process help EPFO members?

This reform simplifies the PF transfer process, reduces delays and ensures a seamless experience for employees changing jobs.
