On the third trading day of 2025 and the last of the week, investors are watching key stocks across sectors. Early trends are under focus as they could shape the market’s direction for the year ahead.

As indicated by GIFT Nifty, Indian equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 are likely to open higher on Friday, January 3. Here’s a look at the key stocks to watch in today’s trade.

Stocks in Focus: GIFT Nifty was trading 39 points or 0.16 per cent higher at 24,189 indicating a positive start for domestic indices NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex on Friday.

Sensex and Nifty Close Higher on Second Day of 2025

Dalal Street welcomed the New Year with a bang for the second day in a row. On Thursday, January 2, 2025, the Sensex jumped 1,436 points (1.83 per cent) to close at 79,944, while the Nifty surged 446 points (1.88 per cent) to end at 24,189. Both markets closed on a high, marking a strong start to the year.

Stocks to watch on January 3, 2025

RITES

RITES secured a Rs 69.78 crore contract from SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant to repair 43 WDS6 locomotives. The project will take three years and includes extensive maintenance work.

Biocon

Biocon Pharma, a subsidiary of Biocon, got China’s approval for Tacrolimus capsules (0.5mg, 1mg, 5mg). The immunosuppressant helps prevent organ rejection in transplant patients and strengthens Biocon’s global drug portfolio.

Avenue Supermarts

D-Mart’s parent company posted Rs 15,565 crore in Q3 FY25 standalone revenue, a 17.5 per cent jump from last year. As of December 2024, it operates 387 stores.

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel is set to acquire a 26 per cent stake in AMP Energy Green Three for Rs 37.89 crore. This move supports Airtel’s green energy goals, as AMP Energy owns and runs a captive power plant dedicated to renewable energy.

Wockhardt

Wockhardt received approval for Miqnaf (nafithromycin), a three-day treatment for bacterial pneumonia, including drug-resistant infections. This marks a major milestone in treating Community-Acquired Bacterial Pneumonia (CABP).

Hindustan Zinc

The company reported a 2 per cent yearly dip in mined metal production for Q3 FY25 at 265 kilotonnes due to reduced ore output at key mines.
