Pay cheques at GCCs likely to be fatter than IT salaries

The compensation paid by global capability centres (GCCs) is expected to be over 50% more than the remuneration paid out by other sectors in the software development domain in 2024-25.

GCCs are expected to outpace information technology (IT) products & services and non-tech sectors in compensation, particularly in critical domains such as software development and cybersecurity,  an analysis by TeamLease Digital showed.

Entry-level positions at GCCs are projected to fetch an average salary of Rs 9.37 lakh per annum (LPA) in GCCs, compared to Rs 6.23 LPA in IT products and services and Rs 6 LPA in non-tech sectors.

The increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) skills in software development, aimed at boosting productivity and innovation, has been a significant driver for the higher remuneration for these roles.

Neeti Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Digital, said while IT services have seen a slowdown in fresher and entry-level hiring over the last two-three years, it is the GCCs and non-tech sectors that are welcoming young talent and offering rich opportunities.

“GCCs are expected to lead the way, offering premium salaries, particularly in roles like penetration testing and data science, with average packages reaching Rs 11.8 LPA,” Sharma said.

Cybersecurity and network administration is another high-demand area, driven by increasing cyberthreats and the need to protect organisational infrastructure. Entry-level salaries in this domain are expected to reach Rs 9.57 LPA at GCCs, which is 40.12% higher than IT products & services salaries of Rs 6.83 LPA and significantly above the Rs 5.17 LPA offered in non-tech sectors.

GCCs are also leading in data management and analytics roles, which focus on analysing and managing large data sets to inform decision-making. Salaries in this domain are expected to average Rs 8.73 LPA in GCCs, Rs 7.07 LPA in IT products and services, and Rs 6.37 LPA in non-tech sectors.
