Is a married daughter of a deceased govt servant eligible for compassionate appointment? Here’s govt’s clarification

Are married daughters of deceased or medically retired government servants eligible for appointments in government jobs on compassionate grounds? There is a big clarification from the government on the matter.

In a recent development, the government has confirmed that married daughters are eligible for appointment on compassionate grounds, as long as they meet certain conditions.

This clarification from the Department of Posts (DoP) follows a memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and refers to the guidelines laid out in an earlier memorandum from August 2022.

Married daughters eligible for compassionate appointments if dependent on deceased govt servant

According to the DoP, married daughters seeking a compassionate appointment must have been wholly dependent on the deceased government servant at the time of death, or on the medically retired government servant at the time of retirement. Additionally, they must continue to support other dependent family members of the deceased or retired government servant.

The responsibility to verify these conditions falls on the administrative ministry or department, which will assess the claims made by married daughters. The verification will consider the financial condition of the deceased or medically retired government servant’s family, as well as the overall eligibility for compassionate appointments.

The DoPT memorandum further emphasizes that these criteria are in line with the Office Memorandum (OM) dated August 2, 2022, which provides the broader framework for compassionate appointments. The Scheme’s goal is to offer employment to a family member of a government servant who passes away while in service or retires on medical grounds, in order to help them overcome financial difficulties.

The clarification ensures that married daughters who meet these requirements can now apply for appointments on compassionate grounds, making it clear that administrative bodies must review each case thoroughly and ensure all criteria are met before offering such appointments.

This clarification comes as a relief to many, as it opens up the possibility for married daughters to support their families after the loss or retirement of a government servant, in line with the government’s compassionate appointment policy.
