Jaguar upcoming EV tested on roads, global debut next year

Jaguar will be expanding its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) segment with its upcoming fully-electric sedan which is currently in development. The yet-to-be-named luxury electric sedan has now started with its road testing in Europe. A pre-production prototype of the same is expected to break cover in the Design Vision Concept at Miami Art Week on 2 December 2024.

The company has revealed that testing of this upcoming luxury battery-powered saloon has kickstarted in the United Kingdom. The all-electric 4 door grand tourer has already completed tens of thousands of miles of virtual and physical testing. Prototypes of this model will soon be deployed at test sites and public roads around the world.

The unnamed car will write a new chapter in Jaguar’s automobile legacy since it will be based on a dedicated electric architecture called JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture) and will be built in Solihull in the UK. While there are no technical details available as of now, the latest images reveal a lot about the vehicle’s exterior design despite the test mule being heavily camouflaged.

Jaguar EV design

Jaguar’s upcoming 4-door GT prototype reveals a distinctive design language. The elongated hood, rearward cabin, and sloping roofline are characteristic of a classic GT silhouette. The vehicle’s upright nose, large wheels, and substantial length suggest a focus on performance and stability.

The prominent, rectangular grille-like element at the front is an intriguing design choice, likely a stylistic element rather than a functional air intake, given the electric powertrain. Further, reports suggest that it will flaunt a new grille up front which will become the face for future Jaguar models. However, since this is a concept, the final production-spec model might undergo some revisions when it comes out.

As of now, there is no word from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) if this all-electric 4-door GT will make it to India or not.
