GRAP Stage 3 enforced in Delhi: Vehicle restrictions you need to know

Bad news for Delhi NCR residents as the Air Quality Index (AQI) is in the severe category for the third consecutive day. By scoring a doom and gloom hattrick, the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented a Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 3. For those who have Friday night and weekend plans, the GRAP Stage 3 restrictions could throw a spanner in the works. With the smog’s overstayed welcome, there’s a thicker layer of blanket hovering over the national capital than your grandma’s knitted sweater. Here’s the lowdown on which vehicles are stuck in the GRAP 3 doghouse.

GRAP Stage 3: Vehicles not allowed to operate

For oil burner fans or diesel car owners, read with caution. BS-IV diesel vehicles are below and cannot be plying on the roads. The same restrictions also apply for BS-III petrol vehicles which are enforced in the National Capital Region including Delhi, Gurugram, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. As for CNG and electric vehicle owners, enjoy less traffic as it could feel like a long weekend for you.

GRAP Stage 3: Public Transportation

With the rising air pollution levels, there are restrictions on Inter-State buses from NCR states excluding CNG, all-electric and BS-VI diesel-powered buses. The GRAP 3 order does not apply on buses and tempo travellers with All India Tourist  Permit.

GRAP Stage 3: We decode the BS level of your car

Every winter the NCR faces unprecedented air pollution levels and this year New Delhi was ranked the most polluted city in the world as it crossed 1000 AQI level. Pop open the glove compartment in your vehicle and open the car manual. It will have all the details of when the vehicle was manufactured and bought and its emission standard. Another simple way to check is by logging on to the manufacturer’s official website and searching for the car model that you own and it will give you all the relevant details and specifications.
