Amid bag checking row, Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy stopped at Maharashtra-Goa border

Amid the bag checking row, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy was stopped at a checkpost on the Maharashtra-Goa border in Sindhudurg district on Wednesday, prompting an angry reaction from the former chief minister.

The incident occurred just days after election officials checked bags carried by Thackeray at a rally in Yavatmal district, which led him to accuse authorities of selective targeting.

On Wednesday, Thackeray and his son, Tejas, were on a campaign tour in the coastal Konkan region when their convoy was halted at the Inshuli checkpost as it was entering Maharashtra from Goa. After realising Thackeray was in one of the vehicles, checkpost personnel allowed the convoy to proceed.

Thackeray continued on his way to Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg district, where he was scheduled to address a rally.

Earlier this week, election officials frisked bags carried by Thackeray after his helicopter landed at a helipad for a rally in Yavatmal. Thackeray filmed the bag search and challenged authorities to subject the luggage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the same scrutiny during their campaign tours.
