Wayanad bypolls: Hoping will get a chance to repay love, affection, says Priyanka Gandhi

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, expressed her hope that the people of Wayanad would grant her the opportunity to represent them in Parliament. Priyanka made this statement on Wednesday while visiting polling booths across Wayanad as the constituency cast their votes for the Lok Sabha by-election.

“My expectation is that the people of Wayanad will give me the chance to repay the love and affection they have shown me and to work for them and be their representative,” Priyanka told reporters during her visit.

Responding to questions from reporters, Priyanka refrained from commenting on the contentious Waqf law issue or the lack of central assistance for landslide victims in Wayanad, both topics that have stirred political debate in Kerala. “I do not think today is the day to speak about these controversies,” she said. “Today is the day of polling. I hope everyone exercises their democratic right and comes out to vote.”

When asked whether she anticipated surpassing her brother Rahul Gandhi’s victory margin from the general elections earlier this year, Priyanka responded, “That is yet to be seen.”

Rahul Gandhi appeals for support in Wayanad

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also reached out to the voters of Wayanad, urging them to support his sister Priyanka. He expressed confidence that she would be more than just a representative, describing her as “your sister, your daughter, and your advocate.”

“I’m reaching out to my family in Wayanad this election, my sister Priyanka Gandhi is ready to be your voice in Parliament,” he said in a post on X. “I urge all of you to come out, vote, and support her. Let’s ensure a resounding victory together!”
