Ola Electric Gen 3 platform to make it debut in Jan 2025

Earlier in August this year, Ola Electric revealed its new Gen 3 platform for its upcoming range of electric scooters. This new platform will be making its debut sooner than later. It has been reported that the Bengaluru-based EV startup will start delivering its e-scooters based  on the new platform January 2025 onwards.

Initially this new platform was expected to hit the roads by March 2025, however, it seems Ola has preponed its plans. The Gen 3 platform will come with some significant technological upgrades over the existing architecture. At the same time, Ola has assured that the products based on this platform will be cost-effective.

Ola Electric Gen 3 platform details

Ola Electric’s Gen 3 platform will introduce the brand’s latest ‘Inside the Box’ approach which represents a significant leap in electric scooter technology. By integrating the motor and battery into a unified unit, the company seeks to optimise efficiency and reduce vehicle weight.  This versatile platform will underpin a diverse lineup of scooters, catering to various rider preferences and use cases.

Ola anticipates a 26% performance increase and a 22.5% cost reduction over previous generations. The battery pack itself will play a crucial role in reinforcing the platform’s structural rigidity and balance. The battery pack will be used as a stress member around the aluminium frame.

The in-house developed battery consists of 4680 cells and according to Ola Electric, these advanced cells are larger and more powerful than the currently used 2170 cells.  Based on this, the manufacturing time will reduce and thermal efficiency and shock resistance will improve.

Another groundbreaking innovation in this platform will be the introduction of a single ECU and a magnetless motor. This new motor will feature magnetised electrical coils, enhancing performance with higher torque and improved efficiency. By integrating the Battery Management System and Motor Control Unit, Ola has optimised the vehicle’s architecture.

Whether ADAS will be introduced in the upcoming products in the near future is yet to be seen.
