Jharkhand elections 2024: Nominations of 743 candidates accepted for first phase polls

Nominations for 743 candidates have been accepted during the scrutiny process for the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, an election official reported on Tuesday.

The scrutiny, conducted on Monday, saw 62 nominations rejected. A total of 805 candidates from 43 assembly constituencies filed their nomination papers between October 18 and 25.

“Altogether 743 candidates are in the fray after the scrutiny. Candidates can withdraw their names by Wednesday,” the official at the Chief Electoral Officer’s office said.

The first phase of voting will take place on November 13, with elections for the 81-member assembly scheduled across two phases on November 13 and 20. Votes will be counted on November 23.

The Barkagaon, Jamshedpur West, and Hatia constituencies recorded the highest number of candidates, each with 28, while Kharsawan had the lowest with 10 candidates.

In the previous election in 2019, 633 candidates contested across the same 43 seats. The nomination process for the second phase, which covers 38 seats, is set to conclude on Tuesday. As of Monday, 347 candidates had filed their nominations for this phase.
