How Sensex and Nifty performed in past five Muhurat Trading Sessions?

In the last five Muhurat trading sessions the key benchmark indices have been on the positive side. The Sensex and Nifty have advanced between Samvat 2080 to Samvat 2076. Let’s look at how they performed during the special one-hour trading session in the past five years: 

In Samvat 2080, the Sensex and Nifty saw big gains during the hour-long special trading session on Diwali. Both the key indices opened in the green on Diwali 2023. Sensex was at 65,249 while Nifty at 19,522. The market ended with Sensex rising 354 points to 65,259 and Nifty at 19,525.

The benchmark equity indices started Samvat 2079 on a positive note. Both indices surged 0.9% during the special Muhurat trading session on Diwali 2022. The gains were driven by the banking and financial stocks. The Sensex rose 524.51 points or 0.88% to settle at 59,831.66. The Nifty 50 advanced 154.45 points or 0.88% to end at 17,730.75. 

In Samvat 2078, the Sensex ended 295.70 points higher or 0.49% at 60,067.62 while the Nifty added 91.80 points or 0.51% to end at 17,921. The midcap and smallcap indexes were up 0.5–1%, while the auto and PSU Bank indices increased by more than 1% each.

In Samvat 2077, Sensex and Nifty closed with gains during the Muhurat trading session on Diwali 2020. The Sensex closed at 43,637.98 points, up 195 points. The Nifty 50 closed below the 12,800 mark helped with the gains in Sun Pharma, Infosys, and Tata Steel as they remained the top gainers. On the other end, SBI, Bajaj Finance and Titan were the top drags.

As investors built up new positions during the special Muhurat trading session to mark the start of the Hindu Samvat year 2076, the Sensex increased 192 points to close at 39,250 on Diwali 2019. The 30-share index inched up to 39,402.23 as investors stuck on auto, IT, and bank stocks.
