Is Muhurat trading on October 31 or November 1? All you need to know about trade timing on NSE, BSE

With Diwali approaching, Indian stock exchanges, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), and Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), have set the date for their traditional Muhurat trading session. 

This special trading period is an annual event tied to Diwali celebrations, viewed by investors as an auspicious time for new investments.

Muhurat Trading on Diwali 2024: Date and Time

The special Muhurat trading session will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, according to an official notification from the NSE. Although Diwali falls on October 31 in most regions, some areas will celebrate it on November 1 due to differences in local customs.

“A special live trading session shall be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, on account of Muhurat trading on Diwali,” the NSE notification confirmed.

Similarly, MCX will also conduct a special trading session on November 1 for all commodity contracts and indices, aligning its schedule with the stock exchanges.

Trading Hours for Samvat 20281

According to the NSE announcement, Muhurat trading will run from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on November 1. Specific timings for cut-offs and trade modifications have also been detailed:

– Session Timing: 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

– Position Limit/Cut-off for Collateral Value and Trade Modifications: 7:10 PM

– After this, no new trades can be initiated, and no modifications, cancellations, or adjustments to open trades will be allowed.

MCX has also mirrored this timing for its Muhurat trading, with additional details as follows:

– MCX Pre-Session (Special Session): 5:45 PM to 5:59 PM

– Client Code Modification Session: 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM

This modification session allows brokers to make last-minute adjustments or customizations to meet client requirements.

Settlement Schedule for Muhurat Trades

Due to the special trading session on November 1, the pay-in/pay-out transactions will be adjusted. Settlement for trades from October 31 and November 1 will take place on November 4, 2024, at 8:30 AM.
