French carmaker Citroen launched its first SUV coupe, the Basalt, earlier this year. Now, a new version has been spied testing, hinting at an electric version of the Basalt. This takes the fight straight to Tata’s doorstep, as the Basalt and the Tata Curvv are the only two SUV coupes in the segment, offered in ICE and all-electric powertrains.
Citroen Baslat EV — What do the images reveal?
Looking at the pictures, the test mule spotted here has some minor, but key differences compared to the ICE version of the Basalt. The lack of a front grille, reworked air dams, and a redesigned front bumper hints at the Basalt being an all-electric test mule.

Other elements such as the headlight design, rear tail lamp, the sloping roofline towards the rear, door handles, and the overall design of the car look identical to its ICE counterpart. In terms of features, the Basalt EV will get a 10.2-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, auto AC, and more.

The powertrain of the electric Basalt is unknown, and according to reports, it could get a 35kWh battery pack with a single motor. This can return a range of around 450km while it will support quick charging as well. When launched, it will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, and the Tata Curvv as well to an extent.
