Maharashtra Elections 2024: NCP releases first list of 38 candidates, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar fielded from Baramati

After the Eknath Shinde led-Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced their first list for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday released its first list of 38 candidates, with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar named as the party’s choice for the Baramati seat in Pune district.

The state will vote on November 20 in a single-phase election for the 288-member assembly, with the results coming out on November 23.

In its first list, the NCP has renominated 26 sitting MLAs, including ministers who supported Ajit Pawar when he joined the ruling camp.

Additionally, the party has fielded sitting legislators Sulbha Khodke (Amravati) and Hiraman Khoskar (Igatpuri), both of whom recently switched over from the Congress.

Bharat Gavit, son of the late Congress veteran Manikrao Gavit, has been nominated from Navapur, while Deputy Speaker of the state assembly Narhari Zirwal is contesting from Dindori.

State cabinet minister Chhagan Bhujbal will contest from Yeola, and former minister Rajkumar Badole, previously with the BJP, has been given the ticket for Arjuni-Morgaon.

With the polling date fast approaching, the ruling Mahayuti alliance—featuring the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP—and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress, are ramping up their preparations.
