The Land Cruiser nameplate holds great significance for Toyota as it is one of the true blue 4×4 SUVs remaining in the international market. Besides the Land Cruiser, Toyota also offers the Land Cruiser Prado, a slightly smaller but equally capable machine, in multiple countries. The latest iteration of the Prado, based on the LC300, made its global debut in the USA last year.
It has now come to light that Toyota is planning to bring the Land Cruiser Prado to India soon. According to a report published by Autocar India, the Prado is set to arrive in India in the second half of next year. Officially known as the Land Cruiser 250, the Prado is Toyota’s flagship model in markets like North America and the United Kingdom, where the full-size Land Cruiser 300 is not available.
Land Cruiser Prado: Specs & Features
Toyota doesn’t use the “Prado” moniker in these markets. In India, however, Toyota will sell it as the Land Cruiser Prado. Based on the TNGA-F ladder-on-frame chassis, the Prado measures 4,920 mm long, 2,139 mm wide, and 1,859 mm wide. It gets a wheelbase of 2,850 mm and a 221 mm ground clearance. It retains the LC300’s boxy design and tall stance which gives the SUV immense road presence.

In India, the Land Cruiser Prado will most likely be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine which also powers the Fortuner and the Hilux. However, this unit will be paired with a 48V mild-hybrid setup. Transmission duties will be carried out by an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels via a low-range transfer case.
