Global action at this hour – Here’s how Asian markets are trading

The Indian equity markets are closed on the account of Mahashivratri. However, here’s a comprehensive and detailed check on how global markets are faring at the moment. The US markets closed the session on a negative note for the second time consecutively with the S&P hitting 0.5% lower. Asian markets meanwhile are subdued.

Previously, on Tuesday, the NSE Nifty 50 finished the session 6 points or 0.03% lower at 22,547.55, while the BSE Sensex rose 148 points or 0.20% to close at 74,602.

Asia Markets

Asia markets are mixed on Wednesday during the early trading hours taking hints from the overnight fall in the US markets. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 480 points or 1.26% at 37,759. The Asia Dow was trading 2.2% lower at 3,790.38. However, South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.16% in early trade hours. The Shanghai Composite was trading flat at 3,346. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.22%, trading in the red for a second straight day.

US markets

The US stock markets closed Tuesday’s trade on a lower note as the US consumer sentiment survey came lower than the expectations of economists. The S&P 500 lost 0.5%, closing at 5,955.25. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.35%, ending the session at 19,026.39. The Dow Jones Industrial Average defied the overall sentiments and closed the day 159.95 points, or 0.37%, to close at 43,621.16. The share price of tech companies led to the fall as they came under selling pressure. A weaker-than-expected consumer confidence reading from the Conference Board weighed on stocks Tuesday.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was down 0.05% at 106.26 on Wednesday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.55% to close at 87.19 to the dollar on February 25.

Crude oil

The crude oil prices traded higher on Wednesday. WTI crude prices were trading at $69.13 up by 0.12%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $73.22 up by 0.14%, on Wednesday morning.
