How will markets open today? Here are 6 cues to watch at this hour

GIFT Nifty indicated that Indian equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 imply to open on a lower note on Monday after taking cues from Asia and the US markets closing on Friday. 

Previously, on Friday, the NSE Nifty 50 finished the session 117 points or 0.51% lower at 22,795.90, while the BSE Sensex lost 425 points or 0.56% to close at 75,311.

Key global and domestic cues to know on February 24, 2025

Asia markets

Asia markets traded on a lower note taking cues from the fall in the US markets. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is closed for a public holiday. The Asia Dow was trading 0.59% higher at 3,866.35. South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.85% in early trade hours. The Shanghai Composite was trading flat at 3,379.11. 

US markets

The US stock markets closed Friday’s trade on a lower note as new US data sparked concerns regarding a slowing economy and sticky inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 748.63 points, or 1.69%, to 43,428.02. The S&P 500 declined 1.71% to finish at 6,013.13. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.2% to end at 19,524.01.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was down 0.31% at 106.28 on Monday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.03% to close at 86.70 to the dollar on February 21. 

Crude oil

The crude oil prices have edged lower. WTI crude prices were trading at $70.18 down by 0.31%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $74.26 down by 0.27%, on Monday morning.

Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net sellers of shares net worth Rs 3,449.15 crore. Meanwhile, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 2,884.61 crore on February 21, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
