PLI release for 6 sectors at Rs 1,596 crore in H1FY25

The government has disbursed Rs 1,596 crore under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for six sectors, including electronics and pharmaceutical, in the first half of this financial year, a senior official said on Tuesday.

This takes the total disbursement under the scheme to Rs 11,317 crore since its launch. The total outlay under the scheme is Rs 1.97 lakh crore for all  the 14 sectors covered by it.

In 2022-23, companies in eight sectors were given an incentive of Rs 2,968 crore. In 2023-24, nine sectors got the benefit of Rs 6,753 crore for additional production. For this financial year, the government estimates the disbursement to be Rs 15,000 crore.

Officials are hopeful of meeting the target as companies only start filing claims after the audited figures for production in the previous year come in mostly after September.

Of the total Rs 1,596 crore given to companies in April-September of this financial year, around Rs 964 crore has gone to companies in the manufacture of large-scale electronics. The pharma sector followed with Rs 604 crore, food products Rs 11 crore, telecom equipment Rs 9 crore, bulk drugs Rs 6 crore, and drones Rs 2 crore.

As of August 2024, across 14 sectors, investments of Rs 1.46 lakh crore have been realised. These investments have resulted in incremental production/sales of over Rs 12.50 lakh crore, employment generation of more than 950,000, and exports surpassing Rs 4 lakh crore. More than 760 applications have been approved under the PLI scheme for all the sectors.
