Smart factories: From chaos to control

Industrial establishments, often large and complex, face pressing challenges across security, safety, and operations due to operational inefficiencies leading to significant financial losses. On average, three workers die and 11 are injured each day in Indian factories due to a lack of safety measures. With India aiming to become a global industrial hub, concrete efforts are needed to make heavy industries safer places to work. “Utilising technology advancements can help to improve workplace safety,” says Ajay S Kabadi, founder & CEO of DocketRun.

This Hubballi, Karnataka-based AI tech startup was launched in 2019 to transform industrial processes, leveraging emerging technology and enhancing productivity and safety. “The origin was fueled by an insight into the challenges that industries face: inefficient inspection systems, redundant processes, and safety vulnerabilities. “This inspired us to create solutions, harnessing the power of AI and IoT to bridge these gaps,” Kabadi told FE. The company has grown to serve a vast clientele that includes Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Lifegear, Morris Garage, Tata Hitachi, and many others.

DocketRun’s artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) solutions deliver smart inspection systems that simplify industrial workflows, drive seamless automation, enable real-time actionable insights and enhance safety protocols. At JSW Steel’s locations in Vijayanagar, Dolvi and Vasind, DocketRun has deployed advanced safety, security, inspection, and data analytics systems across multiple facilities. Its video analytics systems provide 24/7 monitoring and defect detection, reducing human errors and inspection delays. Also, real-time workflow data help identify bottlenecks and streamline operations.

“With over 2,500+ cameras integrated into our platform, we addressed over 17 critical use cases, delivering comprehensive monitoring and actionable insights. Theft challenges were tackled with video-based analytics to monitor compound walls, prevent unauthorised access, and track wrong-way parking or road safety violations. The data analytics dashboards enabled departments like Hot Strip Mill (HSM) and Coke Oven to evaluate production performance and improve operational efficiency,” Kabadi said.

At Tata Steel’s Kalinga Nagar facility, DocketRun has systems for monitoring electrical panel SOPs and mechanical processes, utilising 300+ cameras. According to Kabadi, DocketRun’s systems monitor tagging, locking, and operational standards for vacuum circuit breakers, mitigating risks. “Leveraging existing CCTV infrastructure, we have enhanced the plant’s ability to detect and address potential hazards in real time,” he said.
