Global action at this hour – Here are top 6 cues to watch ahead of market opening

GIFT Nifty indicated that Indian equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 might see a higher start on Wednesday following Asian markets opening on a mixed note in early trade hours. 

Previously, on Tuesday, the NSE Nifty 50 closed the session 90 points or 0.39% higher at 23,176.05, while the BSE Sensex closed 169.62 points or 0.22% higher at 76,499.63.

Key global and domestic cues to know on January 15, 2024 Asian markets

Asia markets were trading on a mixed note on Wednesday following a softer than expected inflation data from the US and overnight gains on Wall Street. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading 0.03% lower at 38,464.70. South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.41% to trade at 2,506.85. The Asia Dow was trading 0.89% lower at 3,649.29.

Wall Street

US indices closed Tuesday on a mixed note after producer price index data came lighter than expectations. The S&P 500 closed the session 0.11% higher at 5,842.91. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite dipped 0.23% to close the session at 19,044.39. The 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 221.16 points or 0.52% to close at 42,518.28.

US dollar 

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was up 0.02% at 109.26 on Wednesday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. Also, the Indian rupee closed at 86.66 against the US Dollar on Wednesday.

Crude oil

WTI crude prices were trading at $77.77 up by 0.35%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $80.10 up by 0.18%, on Wednesday morning. 

FII, DII data

Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net sellers of shares net worth Rs 8,132.26 crore. Meanwhile, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 7,901.06 crore on January 14, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
