A little more than just food: 4,940 users searched for ‘girlfriend’, 40 for ‘dulhan’ on Zomato in 2024

India has gotten amazingly comfortable and habituated with ordering in and this was again proved as food-delivery company Zomato and Blinkit released its year-end report for 2024. The annual customer insights report for 2024 unveiled some hilarious and interesting searches, one of them being 4,940 users searching for ‘girlfriend’ and 40 for ‘dulhan’ on the platform. The report also highlighted ordering behaviour and patterns during 2024. 

In terms of regions , Delhi-NCR topped the list with 12.4 crore orders, while Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, together placed 10.5 crore orders. Bengaluru, meanwhile, placed 30 lakh more orders than Mumbai.

The platform recorded the most cake orders on 22nd September, a non-festive day.Further, 4 orders were delivered to an address saved as ‘Ambani wedding’. Zomato recorded its highest order volume on May 12 with 34.8 lakh orders, while the lowest was on January 29 at 16.8 lakh orders.

Now in terms of most popular dishes, Biryani remained the most popular and most ordered dish in 2024 with a total of 9,13,99,110 orders, which means 3+ orders per second, every day. Pizza secured the second position with a total of 5,84,46,908 orders. The pizzas, if lined up, Zomato said, can go from Mumbai to NYC and beyond. In beverages, users placed 77,76,725 orders for tea and 74,32,856 orders for coffee. Further, Delhi ordered 25x more Gol Gappe than Mumbai ordered Pani Puris.

Now to orders on trains. Zomato has partnered with the IRCTC to enable food delivery on trains when they stop at pre-decided stations on particular routes. A user placed an order for 120 manchurian combos on a train to feed the entire bogey. And in terms of train stations, Kanpur Central saw the most orders at 86,753.
