Maharashtra CM suspense: Name finalised, final nod awaited, says BJP leader Raosaheb Danve

Amid growing suspense over the next chief minister of Maharashtra, BJP leader Raosaheb Danve on Sunday confirmed that the name has been finalised, with only an official approval awaited from the senior party leadership.

Speaking to a regional news channel, Danve hinted that the people of Maharashtra are already aware of the chosen candidate but refrained from naming anyone. “We are waiting for official stamping (approval) on the name,” the BJP leader added.

The new Mahayuti government is set to take oath on the evening of December 5 at Azad Maidan, south Mumbai, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to attend the ceremony, BJP state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced on Saturday.

While the BJP has not revealed the name of the next CM, sources suggest that Devendra Fadnavis, a two-time chief minister and former deputy CM in the recently dissolved Eknath Shinde-led government, is the frontrunner for the post.

Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, meanwhile, spent time in his native village Dare in Satara district, recovering from high fever. His visit, coinciding with speculation about his diminished role in the new government, sparked discussions about his dissatisfaction with the ongoing political developments. Shinde is expected to return to Mumbai on Sunday evening, according to close aides.

Commenting on the situation, Danve dismissed concerns over Shinde’s absence, stating that the caretaker CM’s health does not affect the functioning of the state administration. “When a chief minister visits his native place, we see pride in it,” he said, drawing parallels with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who continued administrative duties post-heart surgery.
