The country’s second largest IT services firm, Infosys, on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art development centre (DC) in New Town, Kolkata, marking a major milestone in West Bengal’s IT growth story.

The centre, inaugurated by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, is equipped to drive innovation in cutting-edge technologies like cloud, AI, and digital transformation across industries including manufacturing, logistics, financial services, and energy. Infosys leadership, including CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka, and senior state officials attended the event.

Banerjee hailed the facility as a “New Year gift” to the state, calling it a “historic” development that reinforces Bengal’s position as a leading IT destination. “The inauguration of Infosys’ Kolkata Development Centre is a hallmark investment in West Bengal. This centre will advance innovation, create employment opportunities, and position the state as a hub for IT excellence in India,” she said.

The Infosys facility aligns with the company’s ESG commitments, incorporating green building standards such as energy-efficient cooling systems, smart building automation, rainwater harvesting, and wastewater recycling. It also features flexible workspaces, training centres, and wellness amenities.

Banerjee highlighted complementary developments, including a new Silicon Valley project in New Town spanning 200 acres, with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore and the potential to create 75,000 jobs. She also announced the establishment of a cable landing station to enhance connectivity for IT firms in the state.
