German motorcycle maker BMW has launched the new R 12 S internationally. The BMW R 12 S is a retro-styled cafe-racer based on the large air-cooled boxer-twin engine, making a drool-worthy motorcycle from the German brand. Here’s a closer look at what the new BMW R 12 S has on offer.
BMW R 12 S — Design and features
On the design front, BMW has nailed it. The motorcycle gets a half-fairing like the old cafe-racers with a bright paint job with contrasting colours. The use of chrome has also added to the retro styling and so have the bar-end mirrors. The motorcycle features a single seat with the exhaust on the left-side, similar to the older R 1200 GS models. The blacked-out engine components also add to the overall design of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle is suspended by full-adjustable USD forks, a monoshock at the rear, wire-spoked 17-inch wheels wrapped in fat tyres, twin 310mm front disc rotors, a 265mm rear disc, LED lighting, and more.
BMW R 12 S — Engine specifications and electronic aids
The new BMW R 12 S is powered by the familiar big-displacement boxer twin to offer subtle power. The 1,170cc air-cooled twin-cylinder engine makes 109bhp and 115Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheel with a shaft-drive mechanism, something BMW is known for with the GS range.
To keep the power down, BMW has also offered an array of electronic aids with the new R 12 S, which includes traction control, dual-channel ABS, ride modes, engine brake control, hill hold, heated grips, cruise control, and more. The launch of the new BMW R 12 S in India is unlikely at the moment and in the US, the motorcycle is priced at $ 21,590 (approximately Rs 18.26 lakh).
