Ola Electric portable battery, new two-wheeler teased ahead of debut next week

Ola Electric is gearing up to announce something big next week. This was confirmed by the company co-founder and CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, on his personal X (formerly Twitter) handle. The latest social media post from Aggarwal doesn’t mention any noteworthy details but contains images which reveal a lot about the forthcoming development.

The latest X post by Aggarwal consists of three images, the first of them being the company’s indigenously developed removable/portable  EV battery. To jog back your memory, the Bengaluru-based EV manufacturing startup had filed a patent for the same in India earlier in July this year.

Removable battery packs have gained popularity in the market since it nullifies the need for an extensive charging network. Whether the upcoming battery will be used as a swappable unit is yet to be determined. Like the patent images leaked earlier this year, the portable battery pack reveals a rectangular box with a grab handle on top. As usual, folks at Ola Electric are still tight lipped about this battery’s exact specifications.

The next big development will be the company’s new electric two-wheeler which isn’t a scooter with a typical underbone design. The images provide a partial glimpse of this product which gets a vertically-oriented LED headlight setup, fixed grab rails up front which extend out of the red-coloured frame and footpegs for the rider.

In all probability, this upcoming product will be Ola’s first EV offering for the B2B space which the company has been eyeing for a long time. It is confirmed by the third image of the latest X post which shows a giant luggage rack mounted at the rear. Moreover, Ola Electric had also filed patents for a similar looking electric two-wheeler almost a year back.

The post by Aggarwal also confirms that Ola’s removable battery technology will be making its debut with this product which makes perfect sense for the B2B use case. That battery as usual is slotted underneath the seat. While Ola keeps all the key details under the wraps, the images reveal that the scooter will be powered by a hub-mounted motor.
