Global markets in the green; Asia higher and US markets shut shop higher after choppy start

The Indian markets are shut on account of Assembly Elections in Maharashtra but globally its a positive day of trade. Asian markets have opened higher and US too closed in the green after a volatile session on Tuesday. Investors are looking forward to appointments by US President-elect Donald Trump

Meanwhile, oil prices saw a modest increase amid escalating tension between Russia and the United States concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Asian Markets Higher on Wednesday

Asian markets opened on a positive note, with investors closely watching earnings reports from the world’s most valuable company and assessing heightened geopolitical risks.

Seoul and Tokyo stocks edged higher, while Hong Kong futures pointing to slight declines. In the U.S., contracts on major indexes also climbed following Wall Street’s recovery from earlier losses, driven by renewed fears of an escalation in the Ukraine-Russia war.

The Asia Dow is trading up by 0.45% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading in green, up by 0.19%. South Korea’s KOSPI is higher by 0.20% and the benchmark Chinese index Shanghai Composite trading up by 0.67%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is also in the green up by 0.77%.

U.S. Markets On Tuesday

In the U.S., despite the rocky start, Wall Street rebounded by the end of trading. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained 191.62 points, or 1.02%, ending at 18,983.43. The S&P 500 rose by 23.36 points, or 0.40%, closing at 5,916.98, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 112.13 points, or 0.26%, finishing at 43,381.07.

The three main stock indices initially were under pressure with the benchmark S&P 500 falling by up to 0.6%. This early decline was on the back of the news that Russian President Vladimir Putin had lowered the threshold for nuclear strikes, expanding the conditions under which Russia might deploy nuclear weapons.

Earlier in the day, Moscow also claimed that Ukraine had used U.S.-made long-range missiles to conduct strikes deep within Russian territory, fueling concerns over further escalation in the region.
