Skoda, Volkswagen recall cars in India: Here’s why

Known for their exceptional build quality, Skoda and Volkswagen have issued a recall for their locally developed offerings in India. This includes Kushaq and Slavia from Skoda and Taigun and Virtus from Volkswagen. Both sister brands are part of the Volkswagen Auto conglomerate.

This development can be confirmed through a listing on SIAM’s voluntary recall website which mentions that select units of the models mentioned above which have been manufactured between 29 November 2023 and 20 January 2024. A total of 52 units (14 Skoda and 38 Volkswagen) have been affected by this recall.

The recall was officially registered on October 28, 2024. The listing also mentions the reason behind this recall. According to the website, it has been observed that models manufactured during the aforesaid period underwent a production process irregularity at the component supplier’s end. During the welding process, the weld seam on the affected component “track control arm” might have missed.

In the event of failure of this component in unavoidable circumstances and during critical driving manoeuvres, it may result in a sudden loss of vehicle stability and control, without any prior warning. This can lead to an accident, potentially injuring the vehicle occupants and causing damage to third parties.

Skoda and Volkswagen are yet to officially announce a recall or share a confirmation on the same. The carmaker is expected to contact the owners of the affected vehicles to inform them about the recall and to get their vehicles inspected at their nearest authorised service centre. The faulty track control arm will likely be replaced on these vehicles free of charge.
