5th Pay Commission: DA hiked by 12% to 455% for THESE central govt employees

5th Pay Commission: Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and those in Central Autonomous Bodies drawing pay under the 5th CPC has been increased, effective July 1, the Department of Expenditure (DoE) has said in an update. With this revision, the DA rate has risen from 443% to 455%.

This increase is part of the government’s regular adjustment to help employees cope with inflation and rising living costs.

Which government employees receive salary under the 5th Central Pay commission?

The 5th Pay Commission was set up in April 1994 and its recommendations were implemented from January 1996. However, since then the country has seen the implementations of recommendations from two pay commissions, 6th and 7th. 6th Pay Commission was implemented in 2006 and the next commission, 7th Pay Commission, came into existence in 2016.

Despite the formation and implementation of recommendations from two new pay commissions, there are certain sections of government employees who are still receiving salaries as per the 5th Pay Commission. Employees of certain Central Autonomous Bodies are still receiving salaries under the 5th Pay Commission.

The DoE’s recent order on DA revision under the 5th Pay Commission also specifies that the existing guidelines from the ministry’s previous notifications will continue to apply. These provisions ensure that the calculation and adjustment of DA remain consistent with earlier rules.

The updated DA rate will be applicable to all employees in Ministries and Departments that follow the Central Government pay scales. All relevant organizations have been advised to notify their employees about this revision.

This revision is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support employees and maintain the purchasing power of their salaries in the face of inflation.

7th Pay Commission DA hike

The Centre recently hiked the dearness allowance and dearness relief for over 1 crore central government employees and pensioners by 3% to 53% last month. The DA/DR hike is effective from July 1, 2024.
