New Aprilia Tuono 457 vs KTM 390 Duke — Street naked comparo

One of the much-anticipated motorcycles at EICMA was the new Aprilia Tuono 457, a naked street bike based on the Aprilia RS 457. Unveiled in Italy, the Tuono will go on sale globally, similar to its fully-faired sibling. It will take on the KTM 390 Duke head-on, a motorcycle that has led the segment for its performance.

The Tuono will come to India soon and is expected to be showcased at India Bike Week. So here’s a quick specifications check between the Aprilia Tuono 457 and the KTM 390 Duke.

The Aprilia Tuono 457 is based on the same platform as the RS 457, but gets no fairing. The Tuono gets vertically-stacked headlights but the signature Aprilia DRL remains. The motorcycle also gets a handlebar instead of the clip-ons the RS 457 features, while it shares the same suspension setup, brakes, electronic aids, wheel size, and engine as the RS 457. The Tuono will offer a slightly more relaxed riding position and gets a TFT dash with phone connectivity.

The KTM 390 Duke needs no introduction. In its third generation, the Duke is the most sought-after performance street naked in its class and the update saw a revised chassis, better suspension with adjustability, updated electronic aids with launch control, a quickshifter as standard, and an increase in torque and horsepower. The 390 Duke gets a host of electronic aids as standard and gets an updated TFT compared to the older-generation model.
