Maharashtra Elections 2024: MVA’s poll manifesto promises Rs 3,000 monthly allowance for women, caste census and more

MVA Maharashtra manifesto: In a bid to challenge Maharashtra’s ruling BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance, the Opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has promised a slate of welfare measures ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

At a rally held at Mumbai’s BKC ground, MVA leaders pledged a Rs 3,000 monthly allowance and free state bus travel for women, an allowance of Rs 4,000 for unemployed youth, and health insurance worth up to Rs 25 lakh, PTI reported.

Under the “Mahalakshmi Scheme,” women will receive monthly financial support, while the “Krishi Samruddhi Yojana” promises a farm loan waiver of up to Rs 3 lakh, along with a Rs 50,000 incentive for timely repayment. The MVA also committed to conducting a caste census and removing the 50 percent cap on reservations if it comes to power.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP for allegedly “weakening the Constitution” and transferring critical projects out of Maharashtra. He asserted that the proposed caste census would bring transparency to reservation policies, allowing fair representation for backward communities.

“The BJP doesn’t say publicly that it wants to finish off the Constitution, but it is working discreetly to weaken it,” he claimed. While appointing vice chancellors of universities across the country, the “only qualification is membership of the RSS,” Gandhi added.

NCP president Sharad Pawar highlighted Maharashtra’s economic slump, attributing it to the BJP’s policies, and expressed concerns over rising crime against women. He noted that Maharashtra’s per capita income ranking has slipped to sixth place, and he condemned alleged corruption tied to the construction of a Shivaji statue in Sindhudurg.
