CM Eknath Shinde predicts ‘thumping majority’ for Mahayuti in Maharashtra elections

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed confidence that the ruling Mahayuti coalition will secure a “thumping” majority in the upcoming assembly elections, drawing parallels to the BJP’s strong performance in Haryana.

Speaking to reporters late Thursday at the Pune airport after returning from Chandigarh, where he attended the swearing-in of Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and the NDA Chief Ministers’ Council Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shinde stressed on the focus on development and welfare schemes among NDA leaders.

“The Haryana election results defied all survey predictions as voters recognized the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Shinde said, praising Saini as a relatable leader. In the recent assembly polls, the BJP won an unprecedented third term in Haryana, clinching 48 out of 90 seats.

“Voters in Haryana supported the ‘double engine’ government, favouring the party in power at the centre. We anticipate similar results in Maharashtra, where we have launched various welfare initiatives, including the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana,’” he noted, as quoted by PTI.

Maharashtra, with 288 assembly seats, is set to hold elections on November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena, is part of the Mahayuti coalition alongside the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

“Comprehensive development efforts are underway in the state. I am confident that Mahayuti will retain power with a significant majority in the upcoming elections,” he added.
