Maharashtra Elections 2024: AAP hints at contesting few seats in polls, affirms unity with INDIA bloc

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has signalled its intention to contest a couple of seats in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, slated for November 20.

While AAP is part of the opposition’s INDIA bloc, which includes Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (SP) under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), it may stake claims where it sees strong prospects.

The elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will take place on November 20 in a single phase, according to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday.

Addressing the media in Sindhudurg’s Kudal on Friday, Amit Palekar, AAP’s Goa unit president and Sindhudurg district in-charge, revealed that the party is focusing on strengthening its presence in the Konkan region, especially in Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, and Kolhapur.

Palekar emphasised that AAP’s growth in these areas is fueled by the local electorate’s disillusionment with BJP’s Union minister Narayan Rane and his “politics of vendetta.”

“The AAP stands strongly with the INDIA bloc allies for the November 20 Maharashtra elections but if political developments permit, then the party may stake claim on a couple of seats where it is in a winnable position,” Palekar said.

Palekar asserted, adding that pressure from local workers is mounting to field candidates in key constituencies. He further noted the local resentment towards the Rane family’s “arrogant language” and stressed the need for clean, honest politics in the region.
