Muhurat Trading 2024: When will Indian markets hold this special trading session and why?

Muhurat Trading 2024 timings: The Indian stock exchanges, on occasion of Diwali Laxmi Puja, will hold a special one-hour trading session on Friday evening known as ‘Muhurat trading’. During this Muhurat trading hour, all market segments will be active, including equity, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives, equity futures and options (F&O), and securities lending and borrowing (SLB). This long-standing tradition is rooted in the belief that investments made during this auspicious time will lead to favorable returns.

Muhurat Trading Timing

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be open for trading from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the pre-market session starting at 5:45 PM. This trading session marks the beginning of Samvat 2081, the Hindu calendar year.

Many people also time their purchases of precious metals like gold and silver, as well as real estate, electronics, and automobiles, for this day. Trading volumes typically surge as numerous orders flood in, and last year, benchmark stock indices experienced significant gains during this hour, enhancing investors’ fortunes.

Additionally, the number of participants in this special trading session has steadily increased over the years, reflecting a broader trend of growing investor engagement in the markets.

Vikram Kasat, Head – Advisory, PL Capital – Prabhudas Lilladher told ANI that their analysis from the past decade reveals that the markets have ended the Muhurat trading session in negative territory only three times. This suggests a positive outlook for future trading sessions.
