Torrent Power reported a 24.7 per cent YoY profit decline in the first quarter of FY26. The company posted a profit (attributed to owners of the company) of Rs 731.44 crore in Q1FY26. In the same quarter of FY25, the power company’s profit stood at Rs 972.24 crore.
Furthermore, Torrent Power’s revenue also slipped by 12.48 per cent in the quarter. The company registered a revenue of Rs 7,906 crore in Q1FY26 against a revenue of Rs 9,033 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Torrent Power: Key factors for revenue/ profit decline
De-growth in the power generation segment is among the key factors behind Torrent Power’s overall revenue and profit decline in the quarter. The revenue from the power generation segment declined from Rs 3,677 crore in Q1FY25 to Rs 2,488 crore in Q1FY26, a drop of 47 per cent.
The decline in revenue power generation segment directly affected the profits of the segment. The power generation segment’s profit before tax stood at Rs 435 crore in Q1FY26, posting a 50 per cent YoY decline.
The transmission and distribution business, the highest revenue-generating segment of the company, also saw a 5.7 per cent revenue decline in the quarter as it fell to Rs 6,534 crore in Q1FY26 from Rs 6,934 crore in Q1FY25.
Additionally, the company said that the Q1 revenue and profit were impacted by low power demand caused by an early monsoon and increased gas prices.
Torrent Power: Renewable Energy business grows
Torrent Power’s renewable energy business saw a modest growth in the first quarter of the fiscal year. Revenue from the renewable energy segment grew from Rs 307 crore in Q1FY25 to Rs 369 crore in Q1FY26.
