The Indian headline indices ended Tuesday’s trading session on a calm note, with both the Sensex and Nifty closing flat. The Sensex settled at 83,697.29, up 90.83 points or 0.11%, while the Nifty ended the day at 25,541.80, gaining 24.775 points or 0.1%. The Nifty Bank also closed higher at 57,459.45, up 0.26%.

Top gainers of the day
Among the Sensex constituents, the biggest gainers were Bharat Electronics, Reliance Industries, Asian Paints, Ultratech Cement, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, which provided some support to the benchmark indices.
Major laggards
On the downside, stocks like Axis Bank, Trent, Eicher Motors, ICICI Bank, and Tech Mahindra weighed on the market, capping any significant upward momentum.

Three three companies – Globe Civil Projects, Kalpataru, and Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases made their market debut today on both the NSE and BSE. Globe Civil Projects stole the spotlight, listing at Rs 90 on the NSE, a 26.76% premium over its issue price of Rs 71, and at Rs 91.10 on the BSE, up nearly 28%. In contrast, Kalpataru Projects had a subdued start, opening flat at its issue price of Rs 414. Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases, however, delivered a healthy performance, listing at Rs 486 on the NSE with a 21.5% gain, and at Rs 492 on the BSE, a 23% premium.
Top sectors in today’s trade
Some sectors saw modest gains in an otherwise flat market session on Tuesday. The glass sector emerged as the top performer with a 2% uptick. Close behind, cables rose 1%. The petroleum sector also edged higher by 1%. Meanwhile, the electronics segment posted a 1% gain. Rounding off the top five, paints and pigments saw a 0.84% rise.

The Nagarjuna Group topped the charts with nearly 5% jump in market capitalisation. The Jaypee Group followed with a 4% rise, while the Essar Group posted a 3.9% gain. The Apollo Hospital Group also saw a rise of 3.39%.
