Sovereign Gold Bonds: Last chance to redeem THIS SGB tranche prematurely – Check details

If you have invested in Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) and are now thinking of redeeming it before time after completion of 5 years, then there is an important update for you. The RBI has released the last dates for premature redemption for some special SGB series in April 2025. If you do not apply within the stipulated time limit, you may have to wait till the next redemption window.

What is premature redemption and when can it be done?

The total tenure of SGB is 8 years, but if investors wish, they can also redeem it before time on certain dates after 5 years. The RBI provides this facility every year on certain dates, on which you can withdraw your bond. This opportunity is available for some special bond series in April this year.

Which bonds are eligible for redemption in April 2025?

  1. SGB 2017-18 Series III

Redemption date: April 16, 2025

Application deadline: March 17 to April 7, 2025

  1. SGB 2017-18 Series IV

Redemption date: April 23, 2025

Application deadline: March 24 to April 15, 2025

  1. SGB 2017-18 Series V

Redemption date: April 30, 2025

Application deadline: March 31 to April 21, 2025

  1. SGB 2017-18 Series VI

Redemption date: May 6, 2025

Application deadline: April 5 to April 28, 2025

You have to submit your request to NSDL, CDSL, RBI Retail Direct Portal or the office where you purchased the bond What should investors do?

First find out which series your bond belongs to. For this, check the issue date of your bond.

Then see what is the last date of application for that series.

Make sure to submit your redemption request within the stipulated time limit, otherwise you will have to wait for the next redemption date.

What are Sovereign Gold Bonds?
